I'm Awake and Alive...Like Chucky

Image
Ah, the things that shape us. Where would we be without them? I can tell you right now that one of the movies that single handedly helped shaped me into the creative, bold, and fierce person that I am today would probably shock you, or at least make you go..."Whaaa?!" At the very least, it would probably make you question my taste in horror movies. Maybe. But with the release of Universal's "Bride of Chucky," this made for once momentous shift in my personality traits, and boy, was I never the same.  I still have a huge movie theater issued poster "Bride of Chucky," for those of you who merely look at it as the fourth installment in the Child's Play franchise was much more than that to my pre-teen self. This was the gateway to both Rob Zombie and dressing in black for non-Halloween events. To my chuckling cousins who were gathered round, watching the rented video (yes...it was a video), Jennifer Tilly's human character Tiffany...

December Doesn't Like June

Image
Fact: I hibernate. Another fact: December reverts to talking in third person when she misses her December Fun Facts that are normally restricted to the month of December. (Follow December Lace on Facebook to join the fun- the more, the merrier!) When other other wealthy socialites were whisked off to summer camps or ritzy destinations in foreign countries for three months at a time, December demanded to be kept in a frosty, secluded location so as not to lose her perfect, pale complexion. December doesn't like cancer or skin disease, and pale is pretty. Da-da-da-dum-snap-snap So to address the numerous questions and various other remarks or complaints that I haven't been as readily available on my blog, I'm aware of my absence. I do miss all of you and I wanted to tell you that. I haven't forgotten about you, duh. I don't really like June though, and before all of you with June birthdays start throwing a fit, calm your Gemini-Cancer (the good kin...

Skynet is Self-Aware, and So Am I

Image
Chances are if you understood that reference, you and I are going to get along just fine in life. That is, of course, unless the real Skynet has come to pass and turns the earth into a smoldering core of rubble and ash and James Cameron sends technologically advanced second units out to film stunt doubles darting out of the way as bullets and fire collide. But in case you didn't catch that reference, Skynet is artificial intelligence that became self-aware in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, one of the best movies ever. *ominous doo-doo-do-do-do sound effect* And it caused a bunch of mayhem, leading to the destruction of the world and a nuclear holocaust. Seriously- kids got vaporized. On swing sets. And Linda Hamilton's skeleton got fried. It was a whole thing. But before you freak out over possible spoilers, you need to understand this is Terminator 2. If you haven't seen this by now, you need to re-prioritize your life. YEEEAAAHHH I'm just saying ...

Guess Who's Back/Back Again/'Cember's Back/Em-i-nem

Image
I'm back. But I think the title is a bit misleading, because unlike Eminem, I'm not able to inspire verses that are able to be conjured up and sung along with the slightest hint of recognition. But that gives me something to shoot for. You can do anything you set your mind to I didn't like being away, though and it all started with a slight variance in my routine. I set aside a certain time and place each week to compose my writing for all of you, and when that was disrupted, it felt like my entire world went haywire. Then the monsters of the real world came into play and my beloved blog sat unwritten, although it was what I was thinking about all the time. My sad, neglected art. Write meeeeeeee And I'm willing to bet that a lot of you have had situations like that too, But the thing is, not writing was dragging me down. I had to do this, and it's been bothering me the entire time I've been away. Lots of topics came up, but the one ...

Gravity Works...Yeah Science!

Image
When it comes to your life, "gravitational pull" is not just a term for astronomy. Yep, I'm totally serious. This applies to your life, and you don't have to know a thing about constellations, the Hubble telescope, or a supernova (but those are all pretty awesome things, so I'd recommend a fair Google exploration of the aforementioned topics). This supernova tho In case a guidance counselor wasn't in your corner growing up, or you're at a point in your life where you're reassessing where you need to be and you really want to eventually do what you love, gravitate to what you like. I'm not talking about the magnetic pull to your couch and binge watching Breaking Bad episodes for the umpteenth time so you can convince yourself it was for research for a YouTube channel about reviewing the finer TV shows. I've had that idea too, and I'm on to you. Science, bitch Since you're serious about committing to doing what you...

Heroes May Change But Your Faith Doesn't Have To

Image
This weekend the new Tomb Raider movie came out and I felt like it was 1996 again. Anyone who knows me knows that Lara Croft has been my hero ever since she came onto the PlayStation scene in 1996. Look at this. Glorious. When Core Design unleashed this soon-to-be-female icon, I was really young and susceptible to whatever the video game wizards put in front of me. Especially if said person was pretty, intelligent, and adventurous. I mean, how cool was this? A hero for girls everywhere! She was everything I could set a goal for in my adult years. I wanted to learn how to climb a mountain and fire a weapon and ride a motorcycle, just like Lady Croft. And Tomb Raider made me think I could do it. Here's the kicker though- at NO POINT did I let anyone convince me it wasn't possible. I paid no attention to people that said she was "just" a video game. To me, she was realistic enough that these goals were attainable. Once that PS1 controller was in my hands, I...

I'm Right Behind You Like Slender Man

Image
Has anyone ever told you that you're not worth it? Or do you just have yourself to thank for that? If you're anything like me, I fall into the second category. There were so many reasons that I put off writing and one of them was because I was terrified...of my own words. All those judges...all those established writers...all those A-listers...SOMEBODY HELLLLLPPP!!! I was immediately discrediting myself before I even got started. Not cool. For those of you who are familiar with my wrestling history, this may not seem at all like the fussy little miss who walked fearlessly into the ring and came back with a sometimes blood-soaked face or a crooked body movement. But wrestling was riddled with a different type of anxiety. Although it might not have looked like it. Photo by Rob Myers With writing, this is an entirely new adventure because I feel like I have no safety net. I'm basically starting at the beginning again. I have years of professional classes ...
