Dresses, Black Mirror, Exquisite Corpses, and Witches, Too: My Interview with Juliette van der Molen

Image
Hello, Everyone! I'm continuing my author interviews with the highly creative and talented Juliette van der Molen today, whose latest poetry installment of Anatomy of a Dress was so good that I felt the need to tell you all about it. Anatomy of a Dress I'd never thought about the connotations of the question "What will you wear today?" Until I read this book, but now it's been on my mind lately. I used to plan my in-ring days around this question because so much of how the day went would be determined by my appearance (or so I thought). I used to meticulously plan my ring gear for the show's performances, down to the color of the nail polish and the bows in my hair. Sometimes my planning had to commence days before the show even took place and I would have to specially order items and outfits months in advance. I was obsessively committed to having all of the details right for what I looked like in the ring (and that was just my outfit! Don't ge

Writing, and Editing, and Pin-making, oh-my! An Interview with Kari Castor

I've got a special treat for you today, everyone :) Kari Castor The fantastic Kari Castor, writer, editor, and enamel pin maker has stopped by and answered some questions for me. This is awesome news for you because she's got a fantastic pin/jewelry site for you to look at, amazing responses to comic book and writing questions, and she name-drops one of my favorite movies ( SuckerPunch ). Ah, yes. This is one of the best movies to watch, I don't care what critics say. For those of you who haven't heard yet, my favorite comic publisher Big Dog Inc is celebrating 10 years this month, and Kari is one of their writers and editors. Thankfully, she's a really cool person too- I met her a while back when I first met BDI's creator Tom Hutchison and since BDI is back with a force, I wanted to showcase her. She's one of the coolest people you may not know about, but we've gotta change that. Tom Hutchison and Kari Castor of Big Dog Inc D

A Review of Vanessa Maki's "the chosen one"

Image
Buffy Poetry!! Yes!! I’m convinced Vanessa Maki wrote the chosen one while holding a stake fresh with a kill. She won’t let you go as she takes you into her dark vault of Buffy-laden tributes while she stalks the night, stomps her prey, and resurrects herself like a true Slayer to continue the good fight. These words are a bloody roar of female empowerment and will stick to your ribs.

The Sorceress of Sonnets Stops By: An Interview with Kristin Garth

Oh, look! I'm not in a cave in Siberia! It's been a little while, which is ironic considering the name of my blog (yeah, yeah) but I had an idea for my favorite month and I figured you'd all be cool with it. For the season of glitter, snow, and gratitude, I wanted to do a little something different on my blog and broaden your horizons a little bit. As you know, since leaving the indy wrestling scene, I've been writing (or trying to) and meeting a lot of great, influential people along the way. One of these fine young people is multi- Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net nominee Kristin Garth, a poet best known for her sonnets that range from pop-culture references, current events, social issues, and concocted characters. No matter the topic though, her words are woven so well that it's no wonder she's got a handful of books already published and a couple more on the way. Not only that, she runs her own poetry site called the Pink Plastic House and has ofte
